The Sermon On The Mount: A New Law Of The Heart

On a gentle slope overlooking the Sea of Galilee, Jesus has delivered a discourse that redefines the requirements of the Kingdom. Moving beyond the letter of the Law, He has addressed the motives of the heart, teaching that anger is equivalent to murder and lust to adultery. The crowds are astonished, for He speaks as one having authority, not as the scribes.

This "Manifesto of the Kingdom" emphasizes the "Blessed" states of the poor in spirit, the mournful, and the peacemakers. It challenges the prevailing religious hierarchy and offers a direct path to the Father through humility and sincere devotion rather than empty ritual.

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock."
— Matthew 7:24
Timeline Box: The Sermon on the Mount occurred during the first year of Jesus' public ministry.

David Is Anointed King Over Judah In Hebron

Following the death of Saul, David has inquired of the Lord and moved to Hebron. There, the men of Judah have anointed him king over their house. While the northern tribes still cling to the house of Saul, the long-promised rise of the son of Jesse has officially begun in the south.

"Then the men of Judah came and there anointed David king over the house of Judah."
— 2 Samuel 2:4
Timeline Box: David reigned in Hebron for seven years before becoming king over all Israel.

The Manna Falling In The Wilderness Of Sin

Six weeks after leaving Egypt, the provisions brought from the Nile have run out. In response to the people's grumbling, Yahweh has provided bread from heaven. Every morning, a fine, flake-like substance appears on the ground. The people call it "Manna," and it serves as a daily reminder of God's ability to sustain His people in the barren waste.

"Then Yahweh said to Moses, 'Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day...'"
— Exodus 16:4
Timeline Box: The provision of Manna began in the second month after the Exodus.

Editorial: Building On The Rock

Both the Sermon on the Mount and the provision of Manna remind us that God is our ultimate foundation and sustainer. Whether we are building a life on His words or relying on His daily bread in the desert, the call is the same: trust and obey. As we start this new month, may we seek the "Rock" that never fails.
