Walking on Water: Sovereignty over the Storm

In the fourth watch of the night, amidst a straining wind on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus appeared to His disciples walking upon the water. The initial terror of the Twelve turned to wonder as He spoke the words: "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid." Peter’s brief walk upon the waves serves as a timeless lesson on the power of focus and the danger of doubt.

The calming of the wind as He stepped into the boat left the disciples worshiping Him, declaring, "Truly You are the Son of God." This display of power over the elements confirms His authority as the one who "treads on the waves of the sea," as spoken by the prophets of old.

"But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.'"
— Matthew 14:27

The Altar Is Rebuilt Amidst The Rubble

The first wave of returnees under Zerubbabel has prioritized the restoration of worship. Even before the foundations of the Temple are laid, the altar of the God of Israel has been rebuilt on its original site. Morning and evening burnt offerings have resumed, signaling that the spiritual heartbeat of the nation has returned to Jerusalem.

"Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests... arose and built the altar of the God of Israel..."
— Ezra 3:2
Timeline Box: The restoration of the altar occurred in the seventh month of the first year of return.

The Giving Of The Ten Words

The voice of Yahweh has echoed from the summit of Sinai, delivering the Ten Commandments directly to the assembled nation. The ground trembled as the moral foundation of the world was established. The people, overwhelmed by the divine presence, have pleaded with Moses to act as their mediator, fearing they will die if God continues to speak.

"And God spoke all these words, saying, 'I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery...'"
— Exodus 20:1-2
Timeline Box: The Decalogue was given during the early months of the Sinai encampment.

Editorial: Facing the Storm with the Word

The storm on the lake and the thunder on Sinai both demand a response. Will we focus on the wind, or on the One who walks on the water? Will we fear the Law, or love the Lawgiver? Today, remember that the Voice that spoke the Commandments is the same Voice that says, "Do not be afraid."
