The Good Shepherd Withdraws Beyond Jordan

Following the tension of the winter feast in Jerusalem, Jesus returns to the place where John first baptized. Many are flocking to Him, noting that while John did no signs, everything he said about this man was true.

"He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. And many came to him."
— John 10:40-41 (ESV)
Timeline Box: Determined by the sequence in John 10:22 ("It was the Feast of Dedication... it was winter") followed by the immediate departure to the Jordan.
Prophetic Significance

The Almond Bloom: A Watchful Eye Over Israel

In the hills of Judea, the almond trees—the "Watchman" trees—are in full bloom. This seasonal marker reminds the faithful that God is watching over His word to perform it.

"And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' And I said, 'I see an almond branch.' Then the Lord said to me, 'You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'"
— Jeremiah 1:11-12 (ESV)
Timeline Box: Based on the biological "Tu BiShvat" cycle in Israel, where almond blossoms peak in late January and February.

The Heavy Hail: Egypt Withers Under Seventh Plague

As the month of Shevat nears its end, the flax and barley of Egypt have been ruined by a miraculous storm of fire and ice. Pharaoh’s officials are beginning to beg for the release of the Hebrews.

"The flax and the barley were struck down, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud. But the wheat and the emmer were not struck down, for they are late in coming up."
— Exodus 9:31-32 (ESV)
Timeline Box: Derived from Egyptian crop cycles described in the Exodus text. Shevat (February) is the primary month for barley "in the ear" in the Nile Delta region.

Editorial: The Season in Summary

The late winter represents a period of withdrawal and preparation. While the world sees a cold landscape, Christ is solidifying His witness beyond the Jordan.
