The Disciples Remain In Disbelief

Despite the empty tomb and the testimonies of Mary Magdalene and the Emmaus disciples, a spirit of profound disbelief still lingers among several of the followers. The trauma of Friday's crucifixion has deeply scarred them, making the reports of a physical resurrection seem like idle tales. They remain gathered in secret behind locked doors for fear of the Jewish authorities.

The Master, however, is not deterred by their initial lack of faith. His post-resurrection ministry is characterized by patient, undeniable proofs of His life. He is allowing them time to process the shock, knowing that their current doubt will soon be forged into an unshakable conviction that will turn the known world upside down.

"And they, when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, refused to believe it."
— Mark 16:11 (LSB)
Timeline Box: The initial days following the resurrection were marked by fear and lingering doubt before the disciples fully grasped the reality of His return.

The Ark Of God Is Captured

A catastrophic defeat has occurred at Aphek. The Philistines have routed the Israelite army and captured the Ark of the Covenant. The wicked priests Hophni and Phinehas are dead, and upon hearing the news, the elderly judge Eli fell backward and died. The glory has departed from Israel.

"And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died."
— 1 Samuel 4:11 (LSB)
Timeline Box: The capture of the Ark was a dark moment in Israel's history, representing the apparent loss of God's presence.

Othniel Captures Kiriath-sepher

In the ongoing conquest of Canaan following Joshua's death, Caleb offered his daughter Achsah in marriage to whoever could capture the fierce stronghold of Kiriath-sepher. Othniel, Caleb's younger brother, bravely stepped forward and took the city. This victory secures his place as a premier military leader, foreshadowing his future role as Israel's first Judge.

"And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it; so he gave him Achsah his daughter as a wife."
— Joshua 15:17 (LSB)
Timeline Box: This conquest occurred in the early settlement period as the tribes secured their allotted territories.

Editorial: When The Glory Seems Lost

When the Ark was captured, Israel believed God had abandoned them. When Jesus was crucified, the disciples believed the Kingdom had failed. In both instances, humanity misjudged the sovereignty of God.

The Ark was actually invading Philistine territory to tear down their idol Dagon; Jesus was invading the grave to tear down the power of death. What looks like a catastrophic defeat to our human eyes is often God positioning Himself for a stunning, unquestionable victory. Do not let current fears keep your doors locked; the King is alive.
