The Eve Of The Outpouring

It is the final quiet day before the world changes forever. The 120 disciples remain secluded in the upper room, their prayers continuing uninterrupted. Outside, the city is preparing for the Feast of Weeks, a harvest festival celebrating the first fruits of the wheat harvest. The religious rituals of the old covenant are carrying on as usual.

Inside the room, however, the followers of the Way are preparing for a different kind of harvest. They are the "first fruits" of the resurrection. The tension in the room is palpable. They have obeyed every command; they have waited faithfully; they have restored their leadership. The only thing left is for the heavens to open.

"And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house..."
— Acts 2:46
Timeline Box: The culture of the early church was forged in the discipline of these waiting days before the Spirit fell.

Josiah Crowned At Eight Years Old

Following the assassination of his wicked father Amon, the people of the land have taken young Josiah and made him king over Judah. He is only eight years old. Despite his youth and the deeply corrupt environment he inherited, Josiah will grow to seek the God of his ancestor David and become one of the greatest reformers in Israel's history.

"Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem."
— 2 Kings 22:1
Timeline Box: Josiah's reign was a brilliant, temporary light of revival before the eventual exile of Judah.

Lot Rescued From The Destruction Of Sodom

Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah was so great, Yahweh rained down fire and brimstone, utterly destroying the cities of the plain. However, the angels of God physically grabbed the hands of Lot, his wife, and his daughters, pulling them out of the city before the judgment fell. Lot was spared solely because God remembered Abraham.

"But he hesitated. So the men seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the compassion of Yahweh was upon him..."
— Genesis 19:16
Timeline Box: The destruction of Sodom serves as a stark biblical warning of divine judgment and merciful rescue.

Editorial: The Harvest Is Ready

On the eve of Pentecost, the Jewish world is celebrating the harvest of wheat. But God is preparing a harvest of souls.

The history of the Bible is filled with moments of dramatic intervention. Angels physically dragged Lot out of a burning city; an eight-year-old boy was raised up to reform a corrupt nation. God steps into history to rescue and restore. Tomorrow, God will step into the upper room, not with fire and brimstone to destroy, but with tongues of fire to empower. The waiting is almost over. The Church is about to be born.
