Honoring God With The Best Of Firstfruits And Tithes

As Israel prepared to enter the Promised Land, specific instructions were given regarding the support of the Levites and priests. The people were commanded to give a portion of their tithes, specifically 'the best of them' and 'the sanctified part,' as a heave offering to the Lord through Aaron the priest. This ensured that those dedicated to temple service were sustained, emphasizing the principle that all blessings flow from God and that He is honored when His people offer Him their choicest possessions, recognizing His ultimate ownership and provision.

Thus you shall also offer a heave offering to Yahweh from all your tithes… From all your gifts, you shall present every heave offering due to Yahweh, from all the best of them, the sanctified part of them.
β€” Numbers 18:28-30 LSB
Timeline Box: These instructions were given to Moses on the plains of Moab as Israel prepared to enter Canaan, at the end of their forty-year wilderness wandering.
