The Great Deluge Continues To Prevail Over The Earth
On the seventeenth day of the second month of the ancient civil calendar (corresponding to the 8th month of the Mosaic sacred calendar), the great deluge began, covering the earth with water. By this day, the twenty-first of Cheshvan, the waters had already prevailed for several days, rising significantly and lifting the ark above the earth. Noah and his family, along with the animals, were safely preserved within the ark, floating upon the vast expanse of the floodwaters as God's judgment unfolded across the world.
The flood continued for forty days on the earth. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the waters.

Timeline Box:
According to Genesis 7:11, the Flood began on the 17th day of the second month. Ancient commentators like Josephus viewed this 'second month' as the second month of the civil year (Marcheshvan/Cheshvan), which is the 8th month of the biblical sacred calendar. On this day, 21 Cheshvan, circa 2348 BC, the floodwaters described in this passage were actively increasing and prevailing on the earth, several days after the initial outpouring.
