Moses Receives The Second Tablets Of The Law

After the tragic incident of the golden calf, Moses ascended Mount Sinai once more to intercede for Israel and to receive a new set of stone tablets inscribed with God's commandments. For forty days and forty nights, Moses remained on the mountain, neither eating bread nor drinking water, as he was in the presence of Yahweh. During this profound encounter, God renewed His covenant with His people, inscribing the Ten Commandments upon the tablets, which Moses then brought down to the waiting Israelites.

So he was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread and he did not drink water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
— Exodus 34:28 LSB
Timeline Box: This momentous event in the Mosaic Era, where Moses received the second set of tablets on Mount Sinai, occurred after the Day of Atonement (10 Tishrei, the 7th month). The subsequent forty days on the mountain would place its conclusion and the descent of Moses into the 8th month, Cheshvan, around 1446 BC. This aligns with 22 Cheshvan, the 8th month of the biblical sacred calendar (second month of the civil year).
