God Grieves Over Humanity's Profound Wickedness
Before the great deluge, the world had descended into pervasive and profound wickedness. The Lord observed the extent of human depravity, seeing that every inclination of the thoughts of man's heart was only evil continually. This widespread corruption grieved God to His heart, leading to His solemn declaration that He would blot out humanity from the face of the earth. This divine sorrow and righteous judgment set the stage for the catastrophic flood that would soon cleanse the earth, saving only Noah and his family.
Then Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And Yahweh was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and He was pained in His heart. And Yahweh said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the earth, from man to animals to creeping things and to the birds of the sky; for I am grieved that I have made them.”

Timeline Box:
This account of God's grief over humanity's wickedness precedes the Flood, which began in the second month of the civil calendar (often associated with Cheshvan, the 8th month of the biblical sacred calendar) and concluded in the eighth month of the civil calendar (also Cheshvan). This foundational narrative of judgment and grace sets the historical context leading to the events dated to the 8th biblical month.
