Zechariah Calls Judah to Return to the Lord

In the eighth month of the second year of King Darius, the prophet Zechariah received a divine message, urging the people of Judah to turn back to the Lord. This earnest call to repentance was a foundational message at the beginning of Zechariah's prophetic ministry, reminding the returned exiles of God's righteous anger towards their ancestors' disobedience and the necessity of sincere devotion for His continued favor during the period of rebuilding the Temple.

Therefore say to them, β€˜Thus says Yahweh of hosts, β€œReturn to Me,” declares Yahweh of hosts, β€œthat I may return to you,” says Yahweh of hosts.
β€” Zechariah 1:3 LSB
Timeline Box: This prophecy is explicitly dated to the eighth month (Cheshvan) in Zechariah 1:1, aligning perfectly with today's date, 28 Cheshvan, in the 8th month of the biblical sacred calendar (second month of the civil year).
