Othniel Judges Israel and Brings Forty Years of Peace

After the death of Joshua and the elders who outlived him, the sons of Israel once again turned to doing evil in the sight of the Lord, serving the Baals and Asherahs. In response to their desperate cry for deliverance, God raised up Othniel, the son of Kenaz and Calebโ€™s younger brother, as their deliverer. The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel, leading them to victory against Cushan-Rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia, and bringing forty years of peace to the land.

Then the sons of Israel cried to Yahweh, and Yahweh raised up a deliverer for the sons of Israel to deliver them, Othniel the son of Kenaz, Calebโ€™s younger brother.
