Over Five Hundred Brethren At Once

Reports are circulating of a massive, undeniably public appearance of the resurrected Christ. The Apostle Paul will later record that Jesus appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time. This widespread manifestation shatters any lingering arguments that the resurrection was merely a private hallucination or a closed conspiracy among the eleven.

This large gathering likely took place in Galilee, the stronghold of His earthly ministry. By revealing Himself to such a massive crowd, Jesus has essentially deputized a small army of eyewitnesses. These men and women will form the bedrock of the early church, carrying the unshakable, first-hand testimony of His life into the decades to come.

"After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep."
— 1 Corinthians 15:6
Timeline Box: This mass appearance is widely considered to have occurred in Galilee during the forty-day period.

Solomon Begins Building The Temple

It is a day of unparalleled historic significance in Jerusalem! King Solomon has officially broken ground to build the house of Yahweh on Mount Moriah, the exact place where the Lord appeared to his father David, on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. The massive architectural plans given by God are finally becoming a physical reality.

"Then Solomon began to build the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah... He began to build on the second day in the second month of the fourth year of his reign."
— 2 Chronicles 3:1-2
Timeline Box: The text explicitly dates the beginning of the Temple construction to the 2nd day of the 2nd month (Iyyar).

The Valiant Men Of Jabesh-gilead Recover Saul

Following the tragic death of King Saul and his sons on Mount Gilboa, the Philistines fastened their bodies to the wall of Beth-shan. Hearing of this disgrace, the valiant men of Jabesh-gilead arose, walked all night, and took the bodies down from the wall. They burned them in Jabesh and buried their bones, fasting for seven days to honor their fallen king.

"All the valiant men arose and walked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan..."
— 1 Samuel 31:12
Timeline Box: This heroic act of loyalty closed the tragic chapter of Israel's first king.

Editorial: Foundations Of The House

On the 2nd of Iyyar, Solomon began to lay the massive physical foundations of the first Temple on Mount Moriah. Centuries later, by appearing to over five hundred brethren at once, Jesus was laying the human foundations of the New Temple—the Church.

God is always building a dwelling place. Solomon used cut stones and cedar beams; Christ uses living stones—men and women who have witnessed His power. The testimonies of those five hundred believers became the unshakeable bedrock of the Christian faith. We are the beneficiaries of their witness, called to continue building the spiritual house of God upon the foundation of their truth.
