The Global Pilgrims Arrive

The streets of Jerusalem are once again swelling with people. The feast of Pentecost (Shavuot) is approaching, drawing devout Jews from every nation under heaven back to the capital city. They are coming from Parthia, Media, Egypt, Rome, and beyond, bringing a cacophony of different languages and cultures into the narrow streets.

This massive influx of international pilgrims is the divinely orchestrated stage for the birth of the Church. Jesus told His disciples they would be witnesses to the remotest part of the earth. God is about to bring the "remotest part of the earth" directly to their doorstep, preparing to launch the Gospel globally in a single afternoon.

"Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven."
— Acts 2:5

Samson Brings Down The Temple Of Dagon

Blinded, mocked, and tied between the two main pillars of the Philistine temple of Dagon, Samson prayed for strength one final time. Leaning his immense weight against the pillars, he tore the building down, killing himself and thousands of the Philistine elite. In his death, he struck a greater blow to the enemies of God than he did in his life.

"And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested... And the house fell on the lords and all the people who were in it."
— Judges 16:29-30
Timeline Box: Samson's sacrificial death marked the climax of his violent tenure as judge.

The Silver Trumpets Are Crafted

In the wilderness, Yahweh commanded Moses to make two trumpets of hammered silver. These trumpets serve a vital function for the massive camp of Israel: they are blown to summon the congregation, to signal the breaking of camp, and to sound an alarm when going to war. The clear blast of the silver trumpet unifies the nation's movement.

"Make yourself two trumpets of silver, of hammered work you shall make them; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for having the camps set out."
— Numbers 10:2
Timeline Box: The silver trumpets were the primary means of mass communication for the millions in the desert.

Editorial: The Trumpet Call To The Nations

God knows how to get the attention of the masses. In the wilderness, He used the piercing sound of hammered silver trumpets to summon the tribes of Israel.

As Pentecost approaches, God is preparing a different kind of trumpet blast. He has gathered devout men from every nation under heaven into one city. When the Holy Spirit falls, the disciples will become the silver trumpets, blowing the message of the Gospel in the native tongues of the entire known world. The stage is perfectly set. The world has come to Jerusalem, and God is about to speak to all of them at once.
